Traitor storm
‘Dark’ qualifications for the McLaren on the circuit of Interlagos, both in terms of qualifying results and the adverse weather conditions, the same ones that proved decisive for the top-10 on the starting grid on Sunday. While Oscar Piastri was the protagonist of a mistake shortly before the storm hit, finishing 10th, his teammate’s performance was not positive either Lando Norrisonly 7th.
The ‘delay’ account
The Woking cars, which had shown an excellent pace both in PL1 and in Q1-Q2, did not reach the top-5 mainly due to a matter of bad luck. Unlike Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, who won the front row of the Brazilian Grand Prix, the #4 is exited the pits slightly later of its rivals, all on one increasingly cold track and with the wind in turn very strong.
Pole missed
All this ruined the chance to fight for higher positions, as well as offering the opportunity to forget the 17th podium of the last qualifying in Mexico City: “Today the car ran great, it was fantastic and we were fast enough to take pole – commented Norris for F1.com – it’s a shame because we didn’t succeed and I don’t know what to think. The car in qualifying was very lively as well as fast enough to take pole if we had put it all together in Q3, so that was it another disappointing Saturday, but we have a chance to redeem ourselves. I’m looking to tomorrow, the car is good, but I don’t know if it will be the same in the wet if it rains tomorrow, but in the dry we should be quite fast. We will see”.
