Massa, ambassador who brings pain
In recent months the decision to have taken center stage Felipe Massa to rely on lawyers to do justice on 2008 Formula 1 World Championship, and in particular on the failure to cancel the Singapore Grand Prix, marked by the Crashgate scandal. The Brazilian’s move came fifteen years after the incident as it was prompted by Bernie Ecclestone’s statements at the beginning of March by Germans F1-Insiderto whom he told them that he had been aware of what had happened, but that he had acted to protect the sport from a huge scandal by putting pressure on Nelson Piquet senior to keep silent.
With an ongoing dispute, Formula 1’s decision to no longer treat Felipe Massa as its ambassador is not surprising, and after the lack of invitations to the recent Monza and Suzuka GPs, the Brazilian is not even present at his home race in Interlagos.
Pilots in silence at the press conference
In the meeting with journalists on Thursday, Felipe Mendes of Estado do SP asked the drivers present (Bottas, Sargeant, Leclerc, Hamilton and Sainz) about Massa’s actions in relation to the 2008 world championship, essentially finding no answers. “Nothing to say”by Sainz, “Honestly, it’s something I don’t pay attention to.”Hamilton’s reply, while no other driver intervened.
This detail disappointed Massa a bit, as he told PlanetF1: “I understand that many people sometimes prefer not to speak or comment. Maybe they are afraid of something, but I received support from many riders, including those present in the paddock now. But wherever I go, be it an airport, a restaurant, a shopping center or a supermarket, I am stopped by people who encourage me to continue and fight for justice in sport”. Massa wanted to underline that his campaign is not a crusade against Hamilton: “I really like him as a driver and he is doing many things regarding good causes. And for this very reason sooner or later he will have to talk about what happened. I have nothing against him, even if we have had no contact on the issue.”
