The Abu Dhabi Center for Shelter and Human Care (Ewaa) brought down the curtain on the activities of the Art Therapy Conference 2023, which is the first of its kind in the region, promising more progress in this vital field in the future, especially since art therapy is considered a global language that transcends borders and cultures.
The center indicated that the conference presented 10 hours of inspiring interactive workshops for specialists, and six live activities, in addition to displaying nearly 100 artistic works by survivors of violence, abuse, and human trafficking.
The conference, which was held under the slogan “Empowerment through Creativity,” represented a turning point in the field of art therapy in the region, highlighting its role as a pivotal tool for improving human psychological and emotional health, as it attracted more than 1,020 attendees, and 23 speakers from the most important specialists in the field, as well as Attracting 56 prestigious entities.
The Center’s General Director, Sarah Shuhail, said: “Although art therapy in its contemporary sense is still new in our region, it has been used since time immemorial in various parts of the world, and we believe that the first art therapy conference of its kind in the region, and other similar events, constitute an opportunity to “A mission to raise awareness of the importance of art as a tool to improve the human ability to heal. The conference included inspiring sessions, in addition to four workshops, focused on recovering from trauma through guided drawing as a sensory-motor methodology to enhance body awareness, the role of the spiritual side of the client during his art therapy in the process of recovering from psychological trauma, and the use of sensory-motor therapy with art to develop creative options.
