Tariffs for home Internet and other fixed-line services in Russia could rise by 10–15% or more in 2024, executives of more than half of the largest Russian Internet providers told TelecomDaily. Leading analyst of Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin explained to Izvestia that price changes will be affected by an increase in the cost of electricity, logistics, and wages.
Consumables and optical fiber are becoming more expensive – so prices will rise, there are no miracles, the expert believes.
“Growth of 15% is a rather restrained forecast. It can be this, it can be big. Growth is inevitable, this is an objective reality,” Murtazin is sure.
The day before, the Federal Antimonopoly Service told Izvestia that the agency does not have information on the planned increase in tariffs for communication services using fixed technology, as well as data on the presence of prerequisites for such an increase. They clarified that there have been no complaints about the rising cost of these services.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications also reported that they do not see any prerequisites for an increase in communication prices.
According to TMT Consulting, in the second quarter of this year, the number of broadband access (home Internet) subscribers in the Russian Federation amounted to 35.5 million. At the same time, the market volume in monetary terms reached 40.1 billion rubles.
On May 25, it was reported that, according to the draft strategy for the development of the domestic communications industry, by the mid-2030s, almost all Russian houses and apartments will be connected to ultra-high-speed Internet – 1 Gbit/s or more.
