Third podium of the season
United States, India and Indonesia: Fabio Quartararo on the eve of the Mandalika weekend he hoped to be able to replicate the result of 2022 when he was second behind Miguel Oliveira and he almost succeeded. The Yamaha rider finished in third position behind Francesco Bagnaia and Maverick Vinales, a majestic performance from the 2021 world champion, who did not miss the opportunity to experience a protagonist’s Sunday, reaching the third podium of the season in the Sunday races.
Stay anyway a little bitter in the mouth for El Diablo since he always lacks the necessary power to be able to overtake when he finds himself catching up to drivers who are slower overall, but impossible to overtake because the M1 lacks adequate cavalry. Below is the analysis of the French rider.
The words of Fabio Quartararo to the microphones of Sky Sport MotoGP
“The times were very good, in the end I wanted to go faster, but when you’re behind someone and you know you struggle to overtake it’s frustrating. However, I am very happy because I think that at one point in the race I was 3.5 seconds behind Pecco, and I finished very close to him. I’m happy, when there are opportunities to make the podium we do it. Vinales was struggling a lot, I was missing something in the engine because I came out much faster than him at the last corner, and at Turn-13 I had more mileage than him, but on the right he had a tire that was quite similar to mine in terms of consumption , but with more power available in the comparison between his Aprilia and my Yamaha. It was difficult to try anything, and our problem now is that we don’t have enough power to try an overtaking, and the only one was the one on Aleix Espargarò, but he had a destroyed tire.
“Here we had a different carcass available, which is softer, and it is an advantage for us. This was the key to the weekend, and on the warm-up lap I was struggling to warm up the right tire, and I made it skate like in a time-attack. I’m very happy to have found these details to get back on the podium. With the tires we had there was a good chance of winning, but they weren’t exactly the same as last year, so that was a bit of a shame. However, I’m happy because I saw how I was riding and I’m happy with how I finished the race.”
