Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden discussed developments around the Gaza Strip during a telephone conversation on October 14. The office of the Israeli Prime Minister announced this.
It is noted that this conversation was the fifth in a week since October 7 between the two leaders after the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict began.
“The two leaders discussed the situation, especially in the south [Израиля], as well as in general. The Prime Minister thanked the President for the extensive and rapid US security and intelligence assistance,” the statement said.
The White House noted that the leaders of the two countries discussed US actions with the UN and a number of countries to ensure that residents of the region have access to food and medical care.
Earlier, on October 11, the Israeli and American heads of state also held a telephone conversation, during which Netanyahu thanked Biden for his strong words of support, as well as for his unconditional support for the State of Israel. A day earlier, the American leader, during a conversation with the Israeli prime minister, said that the United States supports Israel and its “right to defense.”
In addition, on October 14, it was reported that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also held telephone conversations with his US counterpart Joe Biden, in which he announced a complete rejection of the idea of moving the residents of the Gaza Strip from their land.
On the same day, Israeli Armed Forces spokesman Daniel Hagar announced a large-scale offensive by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip. Israeli army battalions and soldiers were deployed throughout the country, he said.
On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian Hamas movement subjected Israeli territory to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and also invaded the border areas in the south of the country. That same day, Israel began retaliating against targets in the Gaza Strip and later declared war and launched Operation Iron Swords.
Palestinians are seeking to return the border between the two countries to the lines that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War. Palestine wants to create its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel refuses to return to the 1967 borders and divide Jerusalem.
