The summit is the annual economic policy event that brings together heads of government, ministers, senior officials, policy makers and business leaders to discuss key issues facing Southeast Asia.
On the sidelines of the visit, Al-Zeyoudi met with a number of prime ministers, ministers and senior government officials from various countries of the region with the aim of exploring more trade and investment opportunities between the UAE and ASEAN, and to continue building an international consensus on major issues of global trade in the period leading up to the UAE’s hosting of the ministerial conference. In his keynote speech, Al-Zeyoudi stressed that the countries of Southeast Asia are major trade and investment partners for the UAE, as the two sides share a common future vision that supports freedom of trade and the flow of capital as important incentives for growth and prosperity. Al-Zeyoudi highlighted the most prominent sectors of joint cooperation such as agriculture, renewable energy and advanced technology. logistics, travel and tourism, and more.
Al-Zeyoudi said, “The Business and Investment Summit in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is an important platform for communicating with ministers and senior officials in one of the most dynamic and developing regions in the world, and the talks and decisions that take place during the summit are directly reflected in the economies of Southeast Asian countries, and go beyond them to what is farther.”
He added, “With the continued shift of the global economic center of gravity eastward, the UAE and ASEAN can create a new platform to provide opportunities and direct capital to high-growth sectors, and develop new solutions in the field of food security, energy transition and innovation-based industries of the future.”
The minister said, “The focus of the comprehensive economic partnership agreements program implemented by the UAE to expand its network of trade partners in Southeast Asian countries, by concluding agreements with Indonesia and Cambodia, and continuing talks to reach similar agreements with Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, confirms the growing confidence.” For the UAE in these promising economies and its role in achieving a better future for the Asian economy in general.
