Britain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, told a press conference that Afghanistan is currently facing a major humanitarian crisis. According to the Afghan news agency, Khama Press, the British delegate indicated that more than half of the Afghan population is in immediate need of humanitarian aid amidst a bad economic situation and humanitarian crisis.
She added that reaching the neediest families has become difficult due to gender-based restrictions on Afghan women working for non-governmental organizations and aid agencies.
The World Food Program said on Twitter, on Tuesday, that it was forced to reduce the number of needy families who received aid to five million, mainly due to a lack of funding in Afghanistan.
The World Food Program had previously announced that some 15.3 million people faced serious food insecurity from May to October 2023 in the war-torn country.
