And the Secret Service announced on Wednesday that a white powder was found in the White House and called a short-term security alert, which turned out to be cocaine.
White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said, “US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and everything we know so far,” adding: “We have confidence that the Secret Service will get to the bottom of the matter.”
According to CNN, Pierre answered a question about whether one of the guests had entered the cocaine, “I will not speculate on the identity of this person.”
A source familiar with the matter said Wednesday that they are checking visitor records and looking at cameras to determine the identity of the perpetrator.
Media reported that the white powder was found in a locker used by staff and guests to leave their mobile phones.
The White House closed for a short period on Sunday after midnight GMT.
Under US law, possession of cocaine is a misdemeanor in Washington, DC.
Biden and his family returned to the White House early Tuesday after spending the weekend at the presidential retreat in Camp David, Maryland.
