During the Nintendo Direct more recent, Nintendo revealed that they were working on a remake of Super Mario RPG for switches. No doubt fans were glad to see this announcement from remakebut now we know that an important member of the team from the original game will not be returning for this project.
Chihiro Fujioka was the director of Super Mario RPG when it was launched in the Super nintendo in 1996. Unfortunately, Fujioka will not return to take care of Super Mario RPG in switches. In fact, it seems Fujioka didn’t even know the project was underway.
When a fan asked Fujioka on Twitter if he would be back for this remakeFujioka responded by saying that he was not involved, but that he was “very surprised and pleased” to see that the project was underway.
I am not involved in the remake.
But I am very surprised and pleased with the news!— Chihiro Fujioka (@ChihiroFujioka) June 22, 2023

Editor’s note: How ugly to find out like this! But hey, I guess a new director is also part of giving the project freshness.
