Holidays in Italy are a dream time for many, but tourists on the Adriatic also have to contend with small obstacles.
Chioggia – The beach holiday in Italy is an annual dream experience, especially for German tourists. Gelato, pizza, pasta and the Lido make your stay in the Land of the Boots unique. However, there are some hurdles that the tourist has to overcome, because not everything is allowed or permitted in every place.
At Merkur.de For example, there is also an overview of the crazy laws that apply in Italy. A very popular area, especially for residents of the state of Bavaria, is the north-east of Italy. The holiday resorts of Jesolo, Bibione and Lignano are located on the Adriatic Sea. Very close by there are also trips to the romantic city of Venice, from which the seaside resort of Chioggia can be reached slightly to the south, although there is a penalty if you do not follow a custom.
Topless ban in Italian holiday town on the Adriatic Sea
It’s not about that a ban on kissing, as in the 40,000-inhabitant town of Eboli in the south-west of the country. In Chioggia there is a topless ban – for men too. Tourists can take a deep breath: of course there is no t-shirt obligation on the beach, but everyone who is 50 meters away from the beach has to wear a top. Otherwise there is a penalty that would otherwise be invested in a dinner. It costs 75 euros to walk around without a top, which is reminiscent of the “red zones” in Portofino, Liguria.
As reported by Italian media, Mayor Mauro Armelao in Chioggia “does not want to allow people to walk half naked in the city center, the police will be unyielding”. Even on public transport, women in bikinis or men in just swimming trunks are to be fined.
‘Not possible for me’: Chioggia mayor fines tourists for inappropriate clothing
“No one is bigoted in Chioggia, but we demand respect for a city dedicated to tourism. It’s not possible for me to see men in bathing suits or women in bikinis in supermarkets every day,” said Mayor Armelao, among others chioggianews24.it quoted. He invokes Article 28, which invokes “public decency in public places and asks that private parts of the body not be displayed”. Councilor Tiozzo Caenazzo also endorses the proposal, saying that it doesn’t take much to avoid the “fall in style” and that the city is taking into account messages and reports from passers-by that draw attention to the mistake.
Chioggia, Veneto
The port city on the Adriatic Sea belongs to Venice and has almost 50,000 inhabitants. The city is also nicknamed “Little Venice” because, as hallo-venedig.com describes, among other things, it has romantic bridges, lagoons, fishing boats, as well as magical beaches and lovely restaurants. Day trips from Chioggia to Venice are on the agenda for many tourists. This works both on land and on water.
Not only do you face penalties for being unclothed in the city center or kissing your partner, but also in the car. If you don’t know some traffic rules in Italy or the frequent mistakes on the Austrian motorway, you have to dig deep into your pocket. (another)
