The motorcycle market increases by 22.2%, with positive records both on the scooter and on the conventional motorcycle. In the accumulated of 2023, closed the first quarter, a total of 48,860 registrations are already recorded, which represents a growth of 8.8% compared to the first quarter of the year 2022.
Despite economic instability, the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine and that there is still a shortage of product, the motorcycle and light vehicle sector registers a new positive month, with 19,977 units registered in March (18% more than in the same period of 2022).
By markets, the motorcycle (true lever of the sector since it represents 88% of the category of light vehicles) grew by 22.2% with 17,902 registered units. Within motorcycles, scooters grew by 11% with 9,290 units, but above all the conventional motorcycle rose, 25% to 8,602 units. This growth of the road bike coincides with the arrival of spring, the beginning of the high season.
According to the Secretary General of anesdor, Jose Maria Riano, «March has been a good month for the motorcycle and light vehicle sector. It allows us to close the first quarter with growth of 8.8%, a figure higher than our forecast. The positive trend is accentuated, which is very valuable considering the context of transformation of mobility that we are currently experiencing«.
Mopeds and electric motorcycles descend
As for the moped market, continues to decline. 946 units have been sold, 26% less than in March 2023.
Heavy quadricycles also decreased (-10%, 332 units). While tricycles (63.3%, 454 units) and light quadricycles (15.9%, 328 units) grew.
This month surprises the fall of the electric motorcycle, 763 units in March represent 49.5% less. They fall mainly in the rental channel, but the company and private channels also fall.
By autonomous communities, all have grown except the Balearic Islands (-0.8%). Growth was led by Castilla y León (55.5%), Murcia (47.6%) and the Canary Islands (43.4%).
