At least one person died and more than thirty have been injured in the derailment of an intercity train running between the Dutch cities of Leiden and The Hagueand that it collided with material from the construction teams that were working on the track during the night.
According to the latest report from the regional security authorities, one person has died and at least thirty have been injured, of which 19 were taken to hospitalincluding the driver of the derailed intercity train, on which, according to the country’s railway company, NS, there were between fifty and sixty people.
Eleven of the thirty injured passengers have been treated at first in nearby homes.
After the accident, numerous emergency services attended the area of the collision, including a trauma helicopter.

The Dutch Minister for Transport and Public Works, Mark Harbers, spoke of “a terrible accident”, as did the Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, who pointed out that “unfortunately one person has died and many were injured in a terrible train accident Voorschoten” and added that his “thoughts are with the families and all the victims.”
The Royal House also issued a statement stressing that its “thoughts are with the victims of the train accident in Voorschoten and their families, many are now in fear and uncertainty.”
The train was heading from Leiden to The Hague when it collided with a small crane at around 03:25 local time (01:25 GMT). which caused a fire in a wagon, which was extinguished by the fire brigade.

The movement of trains between these two Dutch cities is interrupted until the train has been removed, the damage on and near the track has been repaired, and the part of the investigation at the point of the accident is concluded.
The company that manages the railway infrastructure, ProRail, assured that two of the four tracks between these cities were out of service. due to the works that were being done on the infrastructure and that the trains had to run on the other two available tracks.
According to what witnesses to the accident told NOS public television, the crane was first hit by a freight train and then by the NS passenger train, which then derailed and ended partly in a meadow, although ProRail has not confirmed this information.
