Donald Trump in New York, where the expected hearing for the indictment will be held today of the former US president of the case of Stormy Daniels. The former president, the first in history to be indicted, could return to Florida immediately after the hearing, scheduled for 2.15pm local time (8.15pm in Italy), where he is expected at a public event.
According to CNN, the former president hired a new lawyer, Todd Blanche, just on the eve of the hearing. Blanche, who was most recently a partner at law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, has previously represented the tycoon’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort and Igor Fruman, a former associate of Rudy Giuliani who was a key figure in the impeachment trial of the former president.
CNN specifies that lawyers Joe Tacopina and Susan Necheles will remain on Trump’s legal team. Yet Blanche’s hiring was seen by some in the former president’s circle as a way to reduce the burden of Tacopina, which has so far been the face and voice of Trump’s advocacy.
From the plane that was taking him from Florida to New York, meanwhile, the businessman attacked the magistrates, ‘rei’ not to investigate how Joe Biden handled confidential documents while he is being prosecuted for the papers found in Mar-a-Lago. “When are they going to review Biden’s records?… I followed the Presidential Records Act, he didn’t. He obstructed, I didn’t. Trump-hating and crazy prosecutor Jack Smith should ‘GET BIDEN!’ he wrote the former president on the social Truth.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the hearing, the Biden administration said it is monitoring the fallout of Trump’s indictment and is in contact with state and local authorities. This was stated by the spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby, speaking of the possibility of violent protests: “We will be ready if there is a need. We hope it will not be necessary”.
