Javier Tarazona is serving more than 640 days in prison at the headquarters of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) of Helicoide, in Caracas. The his mother, Teresa Sánchez, in a public letter addressed to the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, He requests mediation so that his son can be released.

Tarazona was the director of the NGO Fundaredes, an organization that constantly denounced the presence and actions of Colombian irregular groups in Venezuelan territory.
In the letter, the mother reports that Tarazona has suffered cruel and inhumane treatment, in addition to presenting pathologies that worsened when she contracted covid-19 in prison.
Teresa Sanchez invited Petro to mediate in the release of his son taking advantage of the call made by the president to bring together the opposition and the ruling party in Bogotá and advance the dialogue.

“It is for this reason that I come before you like a desperate mother, who lived through a political prison and is sensitive to what has promoted numerous actions in favor of democracy, justice, dialogue and peace, for which we thank you on behalf of of all the Venezuelan people, but in a particular way I make the request urgently, so that he can process before those who hold power in Venezuela of any humanitarian measure that allows this trial to be carried out in freedom and thus it is possible to seek to save the life of my son Javier Tarazona”, says the text published on social networks.
Tarazona was imprisoned along with his brother Rafael Tarazona, who is now free. Omar de Dios García was also detained but released after months.
