The violent weather is expected to continue in the area through the weekend.
Stateside at least 26 have died in the storms raging in the country’s southern states, authorities say, among other things news channel CNN by.
Storms and tornadoes swept across Mississippi and the neighboring state of Alabama on Friday evening and the night before Saturday local time.
At least 25 deaths have been reported in Mississippi, and at least one death is reported in Alabama. In addition, dozens of people have been injured. The number of casualties is feared to rise as the rescue and clearance work continues.
The storm tore off the roofs of houses, cut down trees and swept some residential areas almost to the ground. At worst, tens of thousands were without electricity. of The Washington Post according to the gust, the wind blew at its worst at about 36 meters per second.
The tornado, on the other hand, hit at least the cities of Silver City and Rolling Fork in Mississippi, the latter of which was very badly destroyed. The speed of the tornado has been at its strongest 70-90 meters per second, The Washington Post reports.
The severe weather is expected to continue across southern states through the weekend, affecting up to 20 million people. Severe storms and possible tornadoes are expected for much of Mississippi through Sunday evening.
