We don’t want to make fun of the sportsmanship of Volkswagen’s electric branch, but if the ID series played a sport, it would be netball. The pinnacle of sportiness at the moment is the GTX line, a kind of lukewarm counterpart to the beloved models with a GTI or R badge. But who knows, that may change with the next generation of EVs.
Volkswagen is sending out a press release today about all kinds of technical matters. For example, the engineers in Wolfsburg are working on their own pulse converters and heat management systems. Just search Google for what that means, but the bottom line is that Volkswagen thinks it can improve the efficiency of EVs by 20 percent.
An electric sports car from Volkswagen?
They can spread the technology across the entire line, according to Volkswagen. And there they drop something interesting: “Thanks to the modular principle of Volkswagen’s ID. models, that technology can then be widely used: in basic engines up to sports cars with a power of 500 kW and more.” A sports car with 500 kW, which is equivalent to 680 hp. Would it?
An electric sports car from Volkswagen to make enthusiasts of the brand happy again, that would be in line with previous reports. Volkswagens will get another design, the Golf would come back and it seems that the GTX badge will be deleted again and that Volkswagen will go back to GTI. A sporty flagship would fit the plans perfectly.
What an electric sports car from Volkswagen would look like? No idea. Maybe like the Volkswagen XL1 from a while ago. Or maybe it will be a hot Golf similar to the 2014 GTE Sport Concept, as you see in the gallery above. And while they’re at it; isn’t it time to revive Volkswagen Motorsport again?
