Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company, the regional leader in the design, construction, repair, maintenance, refurbishment and conversion of marine and commercial ships and a subsidiary of the Edge Group, yesterday signed an industrial cooperation agreement with Fincantieri, one of the world’s leading shipbuilding groups, during the activities of the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2023).
Under the agreement, EDGE and Fincantieri will jointly design, build and manage fleets of military and commercial vessels, as well as create new business opportunities in the local and international market.

For his part, Pieroberto Folgero, Chief Executive Officer, said: “The agreement demonstrates the congruence between the objectives of Abu Dhabi Ship Building and those of Fincantieri in the United Arab Emirates, and represents an important opportunity to benefit from the synergies that will allow the consolidation and joint growth of the two companies. In addition to (NewCo), the new company wholly owned by the (Fincantieri) group, we confirm, in turn, that through this agreement, the group’s strong commitment to strengthening its position and credibility in the United Arab Emirates.
Halkin, affiliated with EDGE, also signed a contract with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of the Turkish Defense Industries Research and Development Institute, which produces precision air-to-ground weapons. The contract was signed on the sidelines of IDEX 2023 exhibition.
“We are proud to send Halken employees to TÜBİTAK SAGE, a well-known military organization with a long history of providing the Turkish defense industry with competitive and advanced technologies, products and services,” said Wim Strydom, Operations Manager of Halken. Over the next year and a half, Halcon engineers will gain important insights and experience from the company’s highly experienced team, and then apply all they have learned in developing Halcon solutions.”
On the other hand, EDGE signed a memorandum of understanding with BAE Systems, a provider of advanced technology-based security and defense solutions.
Under the MoU signed at IDEX 2023, the two parties will explore opportunities to collaborate on the GXP Fusion software solution to enable increased situational awareness in KATIM’s secure devices. The two companies will also seek joint opportunities for the KATIM Gateway network encryption solution in key target markets, and leverage cyber technologies, such as Beacon Red’s scale and test platform.
