It turned out that the The State Attorney General’s Office already summoned the ex-members to testify of the Procurement Committee of the past municipal administration, headed by Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres, for the complaint of contract by direct award without bidding for a work of 400.8 million pesos for the installation of 2 thousand 139 lights. It is unknown if the former officials Nayla Velarde Narváez, senior officer; Javier Alarcón Lizárraga, the municipal treasurer; David Ibarra Olmeda, director of Public Services, and Luis Núñez Gutiérrez, director of Public Works, have already gone before the authorities. What is being said now is that the lifting of signatures took place under pressure at the City Hall facilities, where neither Édgar González Zataráin, then City Council secretary, nor the attorney general, Claudia Cárdenas Díaz, had signed their signatures at that time, since presumably they were not in the compound. The record of the contract with Azteca Lighting apparently contained a series of clauses considered “soft”, which, they were told, did not affect the supplier, even though each of the lamps had a cost of 180 thousand pesos. After the signatures, the document was taken to a private office, where the contract was formalized by direct award of 400.8 million pesos. The legal situation of the former officials is unknown at the moment. Their argument is that they signed so as not to lose their jobs, but in the end, after Benítez Torres resigned as mayor, they were also fired and were left with a serious legal conflict.
He Last Friday the forum was held in the city, “Meeting sustainability of tourist metropolitan areas”, in which the condition of some destinations was analyzed to make them more sustainable and competent. In this activity headed by Senator Patricia Mercado and inaugurated by Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, Mayor Édgar González recognized that as a tourist destination, the living conditions of this destination will necessarily have to be improved. “Tourism that is not focused on practices of massiveness, overexploitation of tourist heritage and affectation of our historical and cultural identity. We want tourism with a social, sustainable and inclusive approach”. The vision is very interesting, however, with so many towers built and under construction, a poor drainage network, small streets for the number of vehicles passing through, it is urgent that an efficient strategy come into operation so that Mazatlán is truly sustainable.

The Carnival parties always bring controversy. This time, what some Mazatlecos have not liked is that the charges to enter Olas Altas are resumed during the holidays. The charge of 70 pesos for some is very high if they plan to go with their family to see the Naval Combat at that site. For others it is fair since in this way the area is inhibited from saturating. Mayor Édgar González has already said that he will analyze the possibility of lowering the cost of the charge with the director of the Institute of Culture, Raúl Rico. We’ll see if they reduce the charge or leave it the same.
