After the UANL Tigres went ahead and announced the hiring of Diego Cocca by the Mexican team as official, the Argentine coach was now able to present himself to the media in his new position.
At a press conference at the Mexican Football Federation, the now former feline coach gave his first statements, in which he expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to him by the managers and also showed his commitment to the national team.
“Mexico has made me grow as a person, as a professional, and they welcomed me back as a coach. In my way of feeling, being able to help Mexico to make their national team grow is a privilege and an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,” said the coach before the press.
“For me it is something very important, especially for being the coach of this country that has given me a lot.”

Adding to his gratitude, he also spoke of commitment: “I promise to give seriousness, work, humility and the goal of putting Mexico in the first places. This is football and you have to win even in the ‘cascaritas’. Here they will find a team that will seek to go out and win every game.”
Likewise, Rodrigo Ares de Parga, executive director of national teams of the FMF contributed to the conference. The former long-pants player from the Pumas explained: “We welcome Diego Cocca, where he will be working and will be very successful as coach of the Mexican National Team. We needed a coach who had good group management, who knew the Mexican football and that it had a well-defined concept of the game”.
On the other hand, Jaime Ordiales, director of men’s national teams, added: “In Diego Cocca we have found a person who works as a team, supports multidisciplinary and comprehensive areas. He has a good image and handling of the environment.”
The first challenge for the former two-time champion with Atlas is the CONCACAF Nations League. The first two games he has to face are in March, so he will have little more than a month to prepare.
On March 23, 2023, he will face the Surinamese team. Mexico is in second place in Group A with four points resulting from a tie and a victory. So getting the win here would be good for the next challenge.
Cocca’s second test as coach would be little more complicated. On March 26, 2023, they will face off against their counterpart from Jamaica, a team that in recent years has gotten the Tri into big trouble.
