The Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC) welcomed the fact that the UN recognized the authenticity of a video in which Ukrainian nationalists shoot unarmed Russian prisoners of war. This was announced on Friday, February 10, by the press service of the HRC.
Thus, the body reacted to the statement of the official representative of the Office of the UN Commissioner Marta Hurtado, in which she indicated that the world organization considers the footage of the execution of Russians to be genuine.
“The Council welcomes an objective response to a specific situation and once again calls on international structures to influence Kyiv and not condone egregious violations of international law,” reads a statement published in Telegram channel HRC.
A video showing Ukrainian nationalists point-blank shooting three men with automatic weapons appeared on the Web a few days earlier. The victims were Russian servicemen who were taken prisoner.
On the same day, Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin called Ukrainian militants who shot captured Russian soldiers war criminals. He expressed confidence that the responsible departments would take comprehensive measures to punish them.
Earlier, on November 21, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia would do everything possible within the framework of international mechanisms to draw attention to the execution of Russian prisoners of war and call to order and law those who may be involved in it.
Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special operation to protect the Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
