Nvidia and Valve have expressed interest in improving the experience of using GeForce Now on Steam Decks. The game streaming service already works on Valve’s portable console, but it requires users to launch a browser and as a result the controls can feel quite strange.
Andrew FearNvidia’s product manager for GeForce Now, confirmed that both Nvidia and Valve were interested in streamlining the GeForce Now experience on Steam Deck.
“There is no native app on Steam Deck today,” he says Fear. “You need to use a Chromium browser for it to work. I would say both Nvidia and Valve are both interested in improving [GeForce Now su Steam Deck]. But we don’t have any announcements about a native app coming to Steam.”
If you are wondering why you would want to stream on Steam Deck, it’s mostly to save battery or access unavailable games or unavailable graphics settings on the Steam Deck. Streaming greatly reduces the workload on the Steam Deck hardware, allowing the device to run much longer. Similarly, there’s no way to play games like The Witcher 3 in full ray-tracing on Steam Deck without streaming them from the cloud.
Fear also hinted that Nvidia is intent on supporting steering wheels on its streaming service, but again doesn’t have anything specific to say on that front at the moment.
