We review a few of Ken Block’s cars.
This morning we received the sad news that legend and cool pear Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident. As a result, the car world has lost a colorful figure. Block caused a furore with his Gymkhana videos on YouTube. We’re talking about the early days of the medium here, there wasn’t as much to see as there is today.
In fact, thanks to Ken Block, the online medium became a bit more popular, because now there was also something to see for the petrolhead.
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
2008
The first car with which we could get acquainted with the Ken Block phenomenon, the Subaru Impreza from Gymkhana Practice.
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
2009
A year later ‘The Informercial’ appears, again with a Subaru Impreza WRX STI, but now the hatchback model. The blue color is also lost.
Ford Fiesta
2010
Ford cleverly capitalizes on the popularity of Ken Block and works with the driver. Initially with the Ford Fiesta. This seems to change slightly per upload and become thicker and faster.
Ford Fiesta WRC
2010
Ken Block is the first American driver to compete in the WRC. It was a bit of scanning. His videos showed that he had epic car control, but how does that compare to a bunch of French and Finns? It didn’t disappoint. Of course he didn’t win rallies from the young guard, but Block regularly scored points. He drove several rallies from 2010 to 2014.
Ford Mustang
2014
This classic Ford Mustang is special. That is perhaps the last car you would expect after the Crown Victoria. Unlike the previous cars, there is no link with the rally world. Ken Block’s star has now risen to such an extent that he can build his own car from scratch.
Ford RS200
2021
A secret favorite of yours truly. Ford RS200 is a legendary monster developed especially for the Group B ralkly class. Unfortunately, the RS200 came just as the class was under heavy fire. A few street cars were built, about 200. But this is an Evo with a 2.1 engine (good for 700 hp in this case).
Audi etron GT
2022
In the fall of 2021, Ken Block announced that he would be working with Audi. The brand with the four rings naturally has a rally history. In addition, the usually quite good Audi could use some cheer that Ken Block knows how to add his team to the cars. It starts with his new daily, a white Audi e-tron GT with white wheels and a roof box:
Audi quattro S1 e-tron Hoonigan
2022
The new Audi Sport quattro e-tron Hoonitron is the first and so far only car from this collaboration. This model was launched in December last year (so three weeks ago).
Of course this is just a small selection of the many Ken Block cars. Top mentions, favorites and other unmentioned cars can be mentioned in the comments.
Attached are some pictures so we don’t forget. Fare you well, old giant.
