Any fans of air-cooled 911 Turbos in the room?
Many things are unfairly distributed in the world. This also applies to the Porsche 911s. Now there are also too few 911s for everyone, but it is still not evenly distributed. Some people have a lot of 911s, while others have none at all.
This is once again evident from the fact that Bonhams will soon be auctioning an impressive private collection of Porsches. This consists of twelve cars, almost all air-cooled 911 Turbos. The odd one out is a 944, which is a Turbo by the way.
If we have to treat all cars one by one, the article would be very long, but we will highlight the sweets from the collection for you. There are some very special specimens among them.
Porsche 964 Turbo S (1993)
The absolute showpiece of the collection is this 964 Turbo S. Nowadays, the 911 Turbo S is sold like hot cakes, but only 86 of these 964 Turbo S were built. The Turbo S has more power than the 964 Turbo (381 hp) and is lighter at the same time. This model is extremely sought after, as evidenced by the expected revenue of $1 million to $1.2 million.
Porsche 993 Turbo S (1998)
The 993 Turbo S is not as rare as a 964 Turbo S, but this is also a sought-after collector’s item. Not many of this version were built either. 345 to be exact. The 993 Turbo S has 450 hp, considerably more than its predecessor. Bonhams expects to catch four to five tons for it.
Porsche 930 Turbo Targa (1989)
If you thought that Porsche today has all possible versions of the 911 in the range, then you are wrong. A Turbo Targa is missing. It was there at the time of the 930. Three units were delivered in Belgium at the time, of which this black copy is one. The auction house expects the car to be hammered for an amount between € 270,000 and € 350,000.
Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 (1989)
A ‘regular’ 930 Turbo is also a popular model. This red copy dates from the last year of construction, which means that this car not only has the 3.3 block, but also the Getrag G50 manual gearbox. The car was bought at the time by Belgian motocross racer Eric Geboers. Bonhams expects an amount of €250,000 to €350,000 for this car.
This is just a small selection from the Turbo collection. For the sake of completeness, below is the full list, in chronological order:
- Porsche 930 Turbo 3.0 (1975)
- Porsche 930 Turbo 3.0 (1977)
- Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 Targa (1987)
- Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 (1989)
- Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 Convertible (1989)
- Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 Targa (1989)
- Porsche 944 Turbo (1990)
- Porsche 964 Turbo 3.3 (1991)
- Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 (1993)
- Porsche 964 Turbo S (1993)
- Porsche 993 Turbo (1997)
- Porsche 993 Turbo S (1998)
The cars probably come from a Belgian collector, because many of these cars have a past in Belgium. In any case, they will be auctioned in Paris. The collection is part of the Bonhams auction Les Grandes Marques du Monde à Paris, which takes place in exactly one month. For fans of air-cooled 911 Turbos, this is something to keep an eye on.
