Through a statement shared tonight on social networks, Minister Yasmín Esquivel reiterated that the thesis with which he obtained his undergraduate degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) was plagiarized.
The pronouncement comes a day after the Faculty of Higher Studies (FES) Aragón, of the UNAM, summoned Esquivel, as well as his thesis advisor and synodists to clarify the alleged plagiarism of his thesis.
“In this process in which I have been the target of a campaign of lies and smears without support, I have undertaken different actions through the competent channels of official institutions, to demonstrate that the truth is on my side, and thus, take care of matters of justice and legal certainty,” the minister said in a statement.
In addition, he assured that he presented various evidence before the Academic and Scientific Integrity Committee of the FES Aragón to defend the originality of his degree thesis presented in 1987, which has caused controversy due to the fact that various similarities were found with another thesis of a former student.
Minister assures that lawyer confessed plagiarism
Among the evidence presented by Yasmín Esquivel is the alleged confession of the other lawyer who allegedly acknowledged that he took various references and paragraphs from the minister’s thesis to do his graduation work.
“She recognized and expressly stated that: ‘from that work I took several references and text, and I was able to take several important parts of her work in the years 1985 and 1986.’ Faced with these facts it is confirmed that the original authorship of the work is mine. The other student recognized that he took my thesis project that I began to prepare since 1985 and that it was in the possession of the thesis director, ”Esquivel assured.

For more than a week, it has been reported that Esquivel’s undergraduate thesis, presented in 1987 at the FES Aragoncould be plagiarism of a thesis presented a year earlier by another graduate of the UNAM Law School.
It should be noted that Esquivel affirmed that she registered her thesis in 1985, so, in any case, she was the one plagiarized and therefore filed a complaint with the General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR).

“I respect the institutions and their autonomy. For this reason, I have only focused on presenting endless conclusive evidence through institutional channels that demonstrate that I am the original author of the thesis Ineffectiveness of Unions in Trusted Workers of Article 123 Section A, thereby corroborating that I am a victim of the plagiarism of the work, as I made it known at the time,” he said.
In addition, the contender for the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) assured that “other interests” have wanted to intervene in the decision that the ministers must make in the elections on January 2, when they elect their new president.
