This is the most recent intervention made by the authorities of Puerto Rico to foreign drug traffickers, after on December 6 two Dominicans were arrested with fourteen bales of cocaine.
That day, agents from the Cabo Rojo Maritime Division were conducting surveillance along the southwest coast of Puerto Rico, in the area of Punta Águila, in the municipality of Cabo Rojo, when they identified on the radar a vessel devoid of lights or security lighting. .
The officers proceeded to intervene the suspicious vessel and arrested two people of Dominican nationality.
The seized drugs were transferred to the Cabo Rojo Maritime Surveillance Division, where they were handed over to federal agencies to continue the investigation.
Drug seizures in the waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico are frequent, since the so-called Mona Channel, which separates this island from the Dominican Republic, is a route commonly used for drug trafficking.
