Shoigu said that a new group of troops will be created in the north-west of Russia
A new grouping of troops will be created in the northwest of Russia. Work on its formation was announced by the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu during an expanded meeting of the board of the department, which is broadcast by TelegramKremlin canal.
According to the minister, such a decision is due to the further expansion of NATO near the borders of the Russian Federation.
“Given NATO’s desire to build up military potential near Russian borders, as well as expand the North Atlantic Alliance through Finland and Sweden, retaliatory measures are required to create an appropriate grouping of troops in northwestern Russia,” Shoigu said.
In addition, the head of the military department called for the creation of three motorized rifle divisions in the country, including in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, an army corps in Karelia, five artillery divisions of military districts and high-capacity artillery brigades, eight bomber aviation regiments and one fighter aviation regiment.
Earlier, Shoigu also said that the number of Russian Armed Forces should be increased to 1.5 million troops.
