Hungary calls on the European Commission (EC) to carefully analyze the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions for Europe. This was stated on December 20 by the adviser to the Prime Minister of the country Balash Orban in an interview with the portal EURActiv.
“The European Commission should prepare an analysis of the consequences of sanctions against Russia,” he said.
In addition, an adviser to the Hungarian prime minister said that Budapest would seek for itself derogations from anti-Russian sanctions in the energy sector and other areas where “sanctions harm Europe more than Russia.”
Last week, the Council of the European Union approved a new, ninth package of anti-Russian sanctions. In particular, this decision introduces new controls and restrictions on the export of goods and technologies, which can contribute to the technological improvement of the Russian defense and security sector.
Orban noted on December 10 that the European Union is imposing its policy on sanctions on member countries of the community.
In early November, Orban said that the country had lost €10 billion this year due to EU sanctions against Russia. He expressed hope that the country’s economy would be able to compensate for the loss of €6 billion, but the rest “would be a heavy burden on the budget.”
