The Spanish government said that a plane, which was heading from Morocco to Turkey on a commercial flight, made an emergency landing at the airport, after it was informed of a “medical accident”, confirming that 28 people on board had fled to the airport runway.
Police arrested 14 of them, including a pregnant woman who officials said pretended to go into labor while on the plane, necessitating an emergency landing.
The government added that two people were arrested later, one was detained inside the airport, the other was found outside, and 12 other people have not been located.
5 of the detainees were returned to the plane immediately, and at least 8 are scheduled to be deported to Morocco, noting that the Turkish company “Pegasus” operates the plane.
According to the government statement, the pregnant woman underwent an examination in the hospital, and it was found that she was not in labour.
The plane was carrying 228 passengers from Casablanca to Istanbul.
It is worth noting that in October last year, a group of passengers fled to the tarmac on the Spanish island of Mallorca after an emergency landing under a false pretext and 12 of them were arrested, while 12 others escaped.
