The accident happened around 7:50 am, when many commuters were on the train. One train was standing still and the other was running at low speed. Still, occupants speak of a hard blow. “People were screaming. I only remember falling to the ground,” a witness told the Catalan newspaper Ser Catalunya.
“The stationary train moved two meters before it stopped again,” a witness who was waiting on the platform told Ser Catalunya. “A lot of people fell over because of the impact. The train was very full.”
After the collision, both trains were evacuated within half an hour. Almost everyone was able to leave the train on their own feet, no one was trapped. Emergency services were standing outside the trains with heating blankets and documents for those involved to sign, proving their involvement in the accident.
