Ischia tragedy, the government contradicts itself: Salvini announces 8 victims, Piantedosi and the prefect deny it
“Eight have died from the Ischia landslide, with rescuers working in difficult conditions”. It is almost 12 when Matteo Salvini, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, releases an initial assessment of the landslide that has hit the island of Ischia. Only unofficial numbers, despite having been released by a government official: a few minutes later it is the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi who corrects him, confirming what has already been declared by the prefect of Naples. “At the moment there are no confirmed deaths”, the message reiterated by Piantedosi, who speaks instead of 12 missing. The news of the first confirmed victim came only two hours later. A forward flight, that of Salvini, which has not gone unnoticed on social media, where many have pointed the finger at the former owner of the Interior Ministry’s search for protagonism.
“There are no our numbers or numbers of others, there are the numbers of the Prefecture precisely to avoid confusion”, specified the head of the Civil Protection Fabrizio Curcio. “It is the prefect who defines the numbers once the situations have been ascertained. The line is quite clear also because behind the numbers there are people and families. The declarations on the numbers are those of the Prefect”.
