For a long time there was doubt whether the Toyota GR86 (and its Subaru brother) would go electric or not. He eventually came with a 2.4 liter petrol engine that has 232 hp and 250 Nm. It still leaves you wondering what would have happened if they had opted for an electric powertrain. Scalar Performance now brings an answer specific to the track.
The electric GR86 will be named SCR1. They have exchanged the combustion engine for an electric motor with 334 hp and 468 Nm. The battery measures 65 kWh. The tuner says you can have 45 minutes of fun on the track before the battery runs out. It should be able to do 0 to 100 km/h in about 4 seconds and its top speed is 267 km/h.
Specifications of the electric Toyota GR86
The electric GR86 is on Enkei T6R wheels and gets nice damper stuff from Öhlins. They give the GR86 various carbon fiber parts such as a splitter, large rear wing, racing seats and steering wheel. There is a screen on board where you can see the lap times and other important things such as the charge of the battery.
Scalar had it approved by the FIA and NASA (no, not that NASA, but Canada’s National Auto Sport Association). Can you imagine such an electric racing adventure? Then you have to be quick. Scalar is only building ten of these for the time being. According to Engine1 they go for $210,000 each.
