Up to a thousand people protested against the installation of tents for refugees in St. Georgen im Attergau in northern Austria. This was announced on October 26 by the radio station ORF.
“Our goal is to remove these unworthy 17 tents,” said the head of the settlement, Ferdinand Aigner, at the rally.
The tents were set up near the federal refugee center. Aigner said that their presence threatens the security of the community, as it is mostly young people.
The federal agency for care and support said that the installation of tents is a necessary measure, as the department can not cope with the influx of refugees. Austria needs an additional 1,000 units of new housing to receive migrants, the agency said.
Earlier, on October 17, it was reported that protests began in Austria over the installation of field tents for refugees. They are placed in such conditions, as the state first reception centers are currently overcrowded. As a sign of disagreement with these measures, representatives of local authorities in the federal state of Upper Austria threatened to block the autobahn. The setting up of tents was also opposed in the lands of Vorarlberg and Tyrol.
Prior to this, on October 12, Austrian Chancellor Nehammer announced problems in the country due to the influx of refugees from Ukraine. He noted that the country cannot cope with the huge influx of Ukrainian refugees, of whom there are already more than 85 thousand in the country.
Austria is not the only European country that has recently faced serious problems due to the increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees.
So, on October 1, it was reported that in the Czech Republic in recent months the number of refugees has also increased sharply. At the same time, it was specified that the police detained a record number of people helping illegal migrants to cross the border, a quarter of them turned out to be Ukrainians.
