Guadalajara Jalisco.- The works of Expansion of the Guadalajara International Airport already registers 42% progressinformed Martín Zazueta, director of the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), with a view to ending the year with 45%.
One of the works that will soon be ready and will start its operation in the first week of November is the development of the first inspection point.
After reopening, the next inspection point will be remodeled.
“The works on the air side are the most important that they are developing because they have to do with the operation of the airport. They began in 2020 and conclude in 2024. They include the construction of the second runway and relocation of the general aviation offices“, he detailed.
Other works that have already been carried out include the construction of a new firefighting building, hydraulic works, falconry and the second runway that will start operating in 2024.
He stressed that there will be a subsystem, such as a smaller airport, only for private aviation, which will start operating in the summer of 2023.
With this, the second terminal will begin construction to have it ready in the summer of 2026 and includes a mixed-use building that will be operating between October and November of next year.
The building will have a hotel, a building with offices that will be for rent and a central distribution area.
Zazueta reported that the terminal building will be around 144 thousand square meters. This will allow user traffic to increase.
“This year the traffic is above 15 million passengers, a number that even exceeds those registered before the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the works are finished, in 2026, we will reach 40 million,” he stressed.
Along with new works, there are also remodeling in the waiting rooms so that they connectin retail stores and food and beverage outlets, as well as the construction of a terrace.
“It will be a very important meeting point as Guadalajara has characterized us in having different things. We have been concerned about all these aspects and now we want to do it with this meeting point as well,” said the director of the GAP.
He recalled that all decisions made must put passengers at the center, as included in the Guadalajara Plan, which is already being developed and includes the construction of the new terminal and commissioning by 2026.

“In order to have a complete development of the Western Zone, we need an infrastructure that allows that development and Guadalajara is that option. What we want is that once the works and the Guadalajara Plan are completed, we can have the capacity to meet any demand that could arise in the development of the industrial, tourist, social region and not go behind the demand”, he concluded.
