Trust GXT 980 REDEX is a newcomer in the Trust stable, which demonstrates the tenacity with which the company wants to impose itself in staples with increasingly extreme standards. Logitech did the same many years ago, and then moved on to a more professional user, leaving this sector line a bit empty and chaotic, among a thousand waste products. It is now up to Trust to fill this void, and he is doing very well.
Trust GXT 980 REDEX: presentation
Unboxing was very simple, inside you will find the Trust GXT 980 REDEX and a USB-C cable, among other things of fine workmanship, fully coated and super resistant. The mouse dongle will instead be hidden in the magnetic upper surface, very easy to take off.
The USB-C cable will be used to recharge the Trust GXT 980 REDEX, and use it in the meantime. I love this thing, because as a hobby I make custom cables, so it adds that added bonus of being able to use any USB-C cable. This is because the Trust GXT 980 REDEX has an internal lithium battery, unlike even many other more expensive mice that use stylus or mini stylus.
On the bottom of the mouse you will find the 125-500-1000 polling rate switch (VERY USEFUL), the on-off switch and the one for RGB. The Trust GXT 980 REDEX has 6 programmable keys through its proprietary software.
The material is anti-fingerprint, opaque and soft touch. The design is minimal and very comfortable, and above all ultralight for being wifi. Here, usually these small attentions are already part of a whole other price category, but I will explain it to you later.
Trust GXT 980 REDEX: info and tests
Now I will take you to the heart of this little Trust masterpiece, and to do so I will also have to make you understand why it is, comparing it with other price ranges. Let’s start with the basics, the polling rate button. Usually this selector is via software especially in more expensive peripheralswhich never made much sense to me, saving design space at the expense of ease of use.
Then there is the USB-C port for charging, which without mentioning the names of other brands was mounted only on the most expensive peripheral of the well-known brand, while not even in the “minor” 100 € version. This alone makes a lot of difference, and above all I do not know that it has ever been mounted on other peripherals in this range. Trust only for this 10 and praise.
Let’s get to the core now, is 10,000 DPI enough? They certainly are for a peripheral with this cost, and while many others can boast of having the same DPI, well they are not as accurate. The Trust GXT 980 REDEX on the other hand has really pro precision, in combination with the polling rate of 1000it’s almost a mid-to-high-end mouse.
There is also to consider the multifaceted factor of these PPE, which not only and exclusively overlook the gaming world, but are extremely useful, in combination with the fact that it is wifi and very light, in the office and productivity sector. Tested on Photoshop and Clip Studio, it didn’t make people regret much more expensive peripherals.
Kailh switches are a guarantee. The Kailh company has become known over the years for its Cherry clones, including the famous Cream, which gave the production a certain strategic advantage over the competition, allowing the construction of switches with the experience of the mechanical keyboard sector, coming to guarantee switch 80 million clicks. Remarkable!
The wheel obviously does not have the side click or infinite scrolling (Logitech type), on the other hand it has a very comfortable grip and feeling, also guaranteeing a certain precision, and the interior is transparent opaque to allow the diffusion of the LEDs. The preset button for PPE I recommend reprogramming itbecause it could be pressed by mistake, if you don’t use a pincer grip when playing.
A dispassionate tip for a future update of this mouse concerns the material of the side buttons. I understand following the curve for design reasons, but for greater usability, purely utilitarian, it is preferable to move them slightly lower, if not directly in the side band.
If you think it’s over here you are very wrong, Trust has indeed provided a proprietary control software for this little gem, which you can find on the official website in the download section, and which will allow you to have full control over the effects and LED colors, as well as the construction of macros to facilitate you in video games, or as I said before, quick calls for production.
