The BYD Atto 3 has arrived in the Netherlands and now also has a price.
You probably can’t keep up with it all, but the Netherlands has recently gained another car brand: BYD. It is a South African brand that builds diesel convertibles. No kidding, it is of course a Chinese brand that makes electric crossovers.
Wouter recently introduced the first BYD models to you (see video). The brand is coming to storm the Dutch market with three cars: the Atto 3, the Tang and the Pig Han. The first two are crossovers, the last is a sedan. They have at least one thing in common: they are all very electric.
The Tang and the Han are a seven-seat SUV and a sports sedan respectively. So not exactly cars for the masses. The Atto 3, on the other hand, is an electric crossover in the C-segment. So it has the potential to become a success.
That success stands or falls with the price. We can now say something sensible about that, because the Dutch price has been announced today. The starting price of the BYD Atto 3 is €42,998. Would you rather lease privately? This is possible for €539 per month (assuming 60 months and 10,000 km).
What do you get for this amount? Including a 60 kWh battery pack, with which you have a WLTP range of 420 km. In terms of power, you can count on 204 hp and you also have 310 Nm of torque at your disposal.
There are only two versions: the Comfort and the Design. The basic equipment is not wrong, because you get, for example, a sliding / panoramic roof, heated seats, a heat pump, adaptive cruise control, a 360 degree camera and a whole laundry list of safety systems.
If you go for the Design version, you get a larger screen (15.6 inches instead of 12.8 inches), an electrically operated tailgate and Vehicle2Load function. The screen is also rotatable, so you can choose between a horizontal or a vertical screen. Or a diagonal screen, but that might be less useful.
Competition
To put the price of the BYD Atto 3 in perspective, we also take a look at some rivals:
- Aiways U5 (204 hp, 410 km range): €40,950
- BYD Atto 3 (204 hp, 420 km range): €42,998
- Kia Niro EV (218 hp, 460 km range): €43,795
- Volkswagen ID.4 77 kWh (204 hp, 501 km range): €46,665
The BYD does not immediately stand out as the price packer. Rather, it’s the Aiways U5, which offers similar specs and more space for less money. Or the brand new Kia Niro, which offers better specifications and slightly less space for the same money.
The BYD Atto 3 does have full standard equipment, so we can’t say it’s a bad deal. But it is also not a car that purely with its price will make people flock to the dealer. As was the case, for example, with the MG ZS.
