The announcement of the new RTX 4000 cards was eagerly awaited by the company’s fans, but not everything was liked by the fans, who particularly criticized the RTX 4080 12 GBalternative version of the RTX 4080 16GB which was supposed to be a simple cheaper version with less RAM available, but which actually turned out to be something different.
The 4080 12 GB has in fact proved to be a slightly too castrated version and this has infuriated the fans a lot. In fact, the power available to this version is a little too limited compared to the 16GB version to continue to consider the card a 4080, and this difference has been found misleading by users.
NVIDIA’s decision: goodbye RTX 4080 12 GB
The company’s reaction was not long in coming and in the end the American giant decided to take a step back, officially announcing on their site that the 12 GB 4080 will not see the light, so on November 16 only the 16 GB version will be released.
The website reads “The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it’s not named right. Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing. So, we’re pressing the “unlaunch” button on the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is amazing and on track to delight gamers everywhere on November 16th“, So basically the same NVIDIA has agreed to the fans who have criticized the RTX 4080 12 GB and decided to remedy this wrong choice.
So what will happen now? There is no more info on this, but what is expected is that the 4080 with 12 GB can come out in the coming months with a new name, maybe it will become the RTX 4070 or RTX 4070Ti.
