The threats against Princess Amalia have ‘enormous consequences’ for her life. That is what her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, said in conversation with the accompanying press at the end of the three-day state visit to Sweden.
Queen Máxima indicated that Amalia only leaves the Huis ten Bosch palace for her studies in Amsterdam. The emotional royal couple confirmed that their eldest daughter does not live in her student house in the center of Amsterdam because of the threats.
“She is not out of the house,” said Queen Máxima. “You may have heard of certain news items or something. It has huge consequences for her life. Means she doesn’t live in Amsterdam and also that she can’t really go outside. Those consequences are very difficult for her. No student life for her like other students have. I’m very proud of her and how she keeps it all going.”
It was recently announced that the security around Princess Amalia has been increased. Criminals would have targeted the princess and Prime Minister Rutte. The RVD, the police and the Public Prosecution Service said they would not make any statements about the security of the Princess of Orange.
About the booing and the middle fingers that he and his family members heard and saw on Budget Day, the king said that ‘he does not take it personally’ and that freedom of expression is a great asset to him. But the monarch also said: “If people knew me, they would probably like me more.”
