CDMX.- With 339 votes in favor and 155 against, the Chamber of Deputies endorsed in general and in particular the opinion that extends the presence of the Armed Forces in public security tasks until 2028.
In the midst of the rejection of Opposition legislators, the Morena faction and its allies obtained the necessary votes to endorse without changes the project that came from the Senate, which includes a fund to strengthen local police.
During the session, which lasted until the first minutes of Thursday, October 13, deputies exchanged remarks about the relevance of pushing for militarization, especially after the hacking that exposed thousands of confidential documents from the Sedena.
“We need cybersecurity legislation. How are we going to give more power to the military if hacking is there, that some of them have links to crime, that they have protected human rights violators and have protected rapists, attacked women the length and breadth of the country? We know because the information is there to be analyzed and studied,” stressed Salvador Caro Cabrera, deputy for MC.
