The Department of Education and Knowledge has identified 21 different skills that students will acquire during their learning journey, within seven axes of competencies provided to them by the Competency Graduation Framework, which is a new educational approach aimed at providing students with future skills, and the Department will implement it in all educational partnerships schools and private schools, during the current academic year.
In detail, the Department of Education and Knowledge confirmed that the framework for graduating competencies seeks to enhance the students’ academic career with an education methodology that depends on acquiring the necessary competencies and skills, within seven main areas, as students at various academic levels, starting from the first to the twelfth grade, acquire skills in areas Entrepreneurship, critical thinking, teamwork ability, global citizenship, financial awareness, intellectual and cognitive flexibility, and digital literacy.
The department indicated that it seeks, through the framework of competencies, to achieve three main goals, including education for global citizenship, a sense of responsibility and efficiency in leadership, in addition to learning skills characterized by flexibility and inspiration, through seven main axes, under each axis three skills, as it includes a leadership axis. Business skills of vision and creativity, skill and determination, and risk assessment. The axis includes the ability to teamwork, self-awareness skills, communication and interpersonal skills, while the financial knowledge axis includes flexibility in planning and awareness of financial security, risks and gains.
She pointed out that the fourth axis is related to digital competence, and includes skills of digital competence and skill, safe digital use and responsibility, creativity and innovation in the digital field, while the global impact axis includes skills of environmental responsibility, global citizenship, participation and community work, and the axis of cognitive flexibility, which includes skills of adaptation and cognitive adaptation. Self-learning, cognitive awareness and setting goals, in addition to the critical thinking skills axis, which includes skills of research, critical analysis, logic, debate and independent thinking.
Kholoud Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Educational Partnerships Sector in the department, confirmed that the framework for graduating competencies aims to prepare a generation capable of facing the challenges of the future, as the Department of Education and Knowledge believes that the students of today’s generation need more than just academic competencies to succeed in the future.
She said: “We seek to support all students in Abu Dhabi to achieve their maximum potential, and the competency framework will enable us to achieve these aspirations, and will become the beating heart of every graduate of Abu Dhabi schools, as this framework provides a new educational model that helps students develop the competencies necessary to meet daily challenges to provide them with skills It enables them to acquire the values and principles of global citizenship, and they have the necessary skills, such as digital competencies, financial literacy, cognitive flexibility, and critical thinking skills.”
Al Dhaheri added, “The Student Competency Framework places Abu Dhabi values at the center of its interest, and will be implemented in Abu Dhabi private schools and partnership schools, to enable students to acquire 21 different skills within seven categories of competencies. Students acquire them at the end of each of the first, second and third semesters, and eventually the students will graduate after acquiring learning skills characterized by flexibility and inspiration with a sense of responsibility, competencies in leadership and the ability to work with others efficiently and effectively from all over the world.”
