The City Council has requested European funds for the renaturalization of this environment
The City Council of Águilas studies the areas that will become low emissions. In this sense, the Consistory has submitted an application for a subsidy within the framework of the aid program for municipalities for the implementation of these areas and the digital and sustainable transformation of urban transport and mobility, within the framework of the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience financed by the European Union.
The City Council wants to promote two projects. The first is the creation of a lane reserved for bicycles at the entrance to Águilas via the RM333 and Calle Iberia. This is the creation of a bicycle-pedestrian lane that joins the existing one, from Calarreona, with the town of Águilas, by means of a platform in which two segregated lanes are arranged, to differentiate the circulation of pedestrians and bicycles. The second project consists of the renaturalization and creation of a single platform in Plaza de España and Calle Coronel Pareja. The aim is to generate a circulation axis for vehicles and people that introduces nature-based solutions for sustainable water management and minimizes the heat island effect, including plant species that collaborate in capturing CO2 to improve air quality. The works have a budget of one million euros.
