PT said it was a “democratic reunion”; alliance with part of the so-called historic PSDB helps in broad front
Candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) visited former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) in São Paulo this Friday (7.Oct. 2022). The toucan declared that he will vote for PT in the 2nd round. In his social networks, Lula called the visit “democratic reunion”.
On Wednesday (5.Oct.2022), when confirming his support for Lula, FHC said that his decision had to do with democracy and social inclusion, promoted by PT’s governments. On social media, the toucan posted two images of two historical moments, one of them in black and white.
“In this second round I vote for a history of struggle for democracy and social inclusion. I vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva”declared.
When publicly thanking him for his support, Lula said on Wednesday that he would like to thank the former president personally. “I don’t want photography, recording of anything, just humanitarian visits from old comrades”said.
The support of FHC, as well as other members of the PSDB, such as former Chancellor Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, helps to broaden Lula’s arc of alliances in the 2nd round of the presidential elections. The PT has tried to expand the political spectrum of allies as much as possible to show strength against his opponent, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The PSDB opted for neutrality in this 2nd round and released the state directories to support whoever they prefer in the 2nd round. On Tuesday (Oct 3), São Paulo governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) declared support for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2nd round. His predecessor, João Doria (PSDB), said he would vote null. Former governor José Serra (PSDB) declared his vote for Lula.
