This came in a joint statement issued by the relevant parties after a four-way meeting in Prague, which included Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel.
“The mission will start in October for a maximum of two months… The objective of this mission is to build confidence and, through its reports, contribute to the commissions in charge of demarcation,” said the statement, which was published after discussions between Pashinyan, Aliyev, Macron and Michel. “Armenia agreed to facilitate the establishment of (this) mission… and Azerbaijan agreed to cooperate with this mission,” the joint statement added.
The four leaders met for several hours late Thursday night, Friday, on the sidelines of the first summit of the European political group in Prague.
The joint declaration stressed that “Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to the United Nations Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, according to which they mutually recognize their territorial integrity and sovereignty,” according to AFP.
He explained that the next meeting of the border demarcation commissions will be held in Brussels by the end of October.
It is noteworthy that last September, at least 286 people were killed in clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the worst fighting between the two neighbors since the 2020 war.
