The European Union’s diplomatic service said on Tuesday that the bloc summoned the Russian envoy to it to condemn and reject Moscow’s annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhia.
Russia announced the annexation on Friday after holding what it described as referendums in regions of Ukraine. Western governments and Kiev said the vote violated international law.
The European Union said it urged Moscow to reverse its “illegal measures” and unconditionally withdraw all its forces from the entire territory of Ukraine during Monday’s meeting with Russian Chargé d’Affairs Kirill Logvinov.
