A cherished pole position, perhaps even deserved, but flown away due to a sesquipedale mistake by Red Bull. Max Verstappen is not celebrating its 25 years in a big way: after the controversy related to the budget cap who cast a very heavy shadow on his 2021 title, the reigning world champion would have liked to eat the track driving his RB18 to reaffirm his superiority over the competition. He was doing it, recording phenomenal split times (the penultimate lap was 1: 48.5, Charles Leclerc’s pole was 1: 49.412). Except that the wall first advised him to lift his foot in the penultimate attempt (in order to conserve gasoline and have a better chance with a faster track), then ordered him to return to the pits because the fuel calculations had been sensationally wrong. There was a risk, in fact, that the Dutchman would not be able to return to the pits (and would therefore have to start from the back of the grid).
If the words of Verstappen to the microphones of the journalists were not the best of conciliation, imagine what he could feel at the moment. Here’s 20 seconds of pure anger towards his team.
He was on-course for an unbelievable lap 😱

Gianpiero Lambiase (track engineer): “Max box, box“
Verstappen: “Because? What the fuck, why? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck are you guys saying. Incredible, man. I don’t understand, what the fuck is the point?“
L: “We’ll talk about this once you’re out of the car, Max“.
