BMW announces the price of the very first M3 Touring today.
If you thought it BMW-news after yesterday was exhausted, then you are wrong. BMW has more news to report today. This time it’s about the M3 Touring, which was unveiled in June. After it was teased ad nauseam.
Now it’s also exciting that there will be an M3 Touring for the first time, but that’s exactly why 80,000 teasers are not needed. This made the eventual unveiling of the car less special.
Anyway, the M3 Touring has been unveiled. There is only one variant, the M3 Touring Competition xDrive. That means: 510 hp, 650 Nm and always four-wheel drive. This makes it not even the heaviest variant. Believe it or not, the M4 Convertible is heavier (1,995 kg vs. 1,940 kg). But that aside.
In terms of performance, the M3 Touring is not inferior to the regular M3. 0-100 km/h is beeped in 3.7 seconds, which is a tenth slower than the sedan in the same specification. The top speed is of course also limited to 250 km/h, or optionally to 280.
It is of course subjective, but in terms of design, the M3 Touring seems to be just a little better than the M3 sedan and the M4. The grille is comparatively slightly smaller. And then the Touring is even more practical. So there are plenty of reasons to choose the Touring.
Now the question is: what does it cost? BMW announces today that the price of the M3 Touring will be €138,967. That means an additional cost of about 4 mille compared to the M3 Competition xDrive sedan.
BMW has not yet announced when deliveries of the new M3 Touring will start. The car is also not yet in the Dutch configurator at the time of writing. If you still want to play with compositions, you should take a look at the German configurator.
Competition
In terms of competition, there is really only one direct rival that you can order at the moment: the Audi RS4 Avant. That is ‘already’ from € 134,271, but then you also 60 hp less than in the M3.
The M3 Touring in turn has to lose out against the brand new C 63 S Estate. With its 680 hp and 1,020 Nm of torque, it makes mincemeat from the M3 and especially from the RS4. But yeah… that four-cylinder, huh?
The latter does mean that the price of the C63 will probably be favorable. The C63 can therefore become a formidable competitor of the M3 Touring, four-cylinder or no four-cylinder.
There are actually no more competitors. Or is it? There is of course also the Alpina B3 Touring. It has a slightly different character, but it is certainly an alternative to the M3 Touring. The Alpina B3 Touring AWD is available from €129,294. With 462 hp it may not be the fastest of the bunch, but it is the most special.
