McLaren seeks its way into the era of ground-effect single-seaters. The MCL36 presented itself to the 2022 World Championship with interesting technical solutions, but the car of technical director James Key seems to succumb in the fight for fourth place in the Constructors’ World Championship with the Alpine.
The F1 papaya was born with the front suspension with a pull rod pattern and the rear push rod, subverting the classic pattern that has not been bravely interpreted only by the Red Bull RB18 that is dominating the scene.

In Singapore, McLaren presented itself with a celebratory livery to support the campaign called Future Mode launched together with sponsor OKX to highlight the return of Formula 1 to the east. The neon pink that adorns the MCL36 will also be retained in Japan, as it will take place in Suzuka just a week after the Marina Bay race.
Here is Ricciardo’s McLaren MCL36 that will keep the radiator outlets rounded

But in the eyes of the observers, struck by the gaudy coloring, a technical innovation has escaped that has been introduced only on the car that will be entrusted to Lando Norris: the mouth of the radiators in the front part of the bellies has a different design. It was rounded, and so it will still be on Daniel Ricciardo’s car, while it becomes more angular at the top.
The belly of Norris’ MCL36 with a more sloping trend than that seen in Monza

The aerodynamics seem to go in the direction of Red Bull to modify the fluid dynamics inside the sides, perhaps trying solutions that can become a “bridge” towards next year’s car. Even the trend of the belly towards the rear seems to orient itself according to the dictates of the RB18 with a design that seems more sloping than what we observed at Monza.
