Bad news for users Sony who have, over time, bought a large collection of PSVR games: this is confirmed Hideaki NishinoSenior Vice President of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
On September 15, the vice president said through an official PlayStation podcast that in fact the games previously released for the PSVR system, compatible with both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, they will not be playable on the new hardware system expected for 2023.
“PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience”
Nishino explained, then continuing with:
“This means that game development for PSVR2 requires a completely different approach than the original PSVR”
In fact, letting it be understood that the internal architecture of the new visual and immersive system, PSVR2 in fact, would not allow the correct vision and functioning of the old games: this is to the advantage of those who choose the new, while it will penalize those who have always been tied to this technology. Yes, if you have a large amount of PSVR video games you will not be able to part with the hardware if you intend to play them in the future. The PSVR2 system is expected in 2023 although the details of the official release are not yet known, we know that it will be compatible with games such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Horizon: Call of the Mountain, the latter entirely dedicated title.
