The Eiffel Tower forms part of the energy sobriety measures, with the extinction of its 20,000 energy-saving light bulbs starting at 11:45 p.m.when the monument closes to the public.
Until now, in this monument the lights go out at 1 am The mayor stressed that this reduction in hours is a gesture “symbolically important” because it shows that even the Eiffel Tower, with its worldwide notoriety and load of exemplary character, participates in energy saving measures.
Lighting represents 4% of operating energy consumption. He also advanced that “all public buildings will heat up to 18 degrees” in the next winter season, which means one degree less than until now.
During the night and in periods “when the buildings are empty”, such as on weekends, the temperature will be 12 degrees.
In addition, the buildings will begin to be heated half an hour later, as long as winter temperatures allow it. Day care centers and nursing homes will be the exception to these rules on heating limitation.
Hidalgo asked the government of French President Emmanuel Macron to implement these measures throughout the country and support the municipalities for their implementation.
