The UK is at risk of not coping with a series of complex crises under the country’s new prime minister, Liz Truss. A columnist wrote about this on September 11 Bloomberg Max Hastings.
According to him, the United Kingdom is facing a catastrophe due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, high inflation, a recession in the economy, the Ukrainian conflict, rising energy prices, combined with Truss’s weak leadership qualities.
“Polls in the ruling Conservative Party show that its rank and file would prefer to stay with Truss’s disgraced but shameless predecessor, Boris Johnson. Respected columnist and former Tory MP Matthew Parris, who did a political internship on the staff of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, writes savagely about the new prime minister: “she is crazy,” the article says.
In addition, Hastings pointed to Truss’ inflated self-esteem and unprofessionalism. He cited the allegations of a senior British military officer who said that Truss, as head of the British Foreign Office, preferred to be accompanied on her working trip by representatives of the media and personal advisers, rather than ministry experts.
“Today, the ascent of Liz Truss into Downing Street against the backdrop of a near-collapsed pound sterling and the prospect of an industrial and social winter of discontent represents a historic moment. Britain is in serious danger of becoming not just humiliated, but, even worse, a laughing stock, ”concluded the author.
Earlier, on September 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the appointment of Truss to the post of head of the government of the United Kingdom is a reflection of the crisis of British democracy.
The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Truss policy would not help strengthen the position of the United Kingdom in the international arena. He pointed out that Truss defends the interests of Great Britain, not wanting to agree to compromises.
According to the results survey At YouGov, half of the people in the UK are dissatisfied with the victory of Truss in the election of the prime minister.
On September 5, 47-year-old Liz Truss won the election of the new head of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Truss became the 56th prime minister of Great Britain, and also the third woman to head the cabinet after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
